About the event

The Connecticut River Flotilla of the Coast Guard Auxiliary will conduct no-charge recreational vessel safety checks on June 8th from 9 am to 12 noon at the Essex Corinthian and Essex Yacht Clubs. Following the checks, the Auxiliary will hold a “Suddenly in Command” class at the Corinthian.

Suddenly In Command is a class designed for the first mate and boating partner with limited boating skills and experience. The class emphasizes the skills needed to safely bring the vessel home or get help in the event the skipper becomes disabled.  The 2-hour class covers the use of the VHF radio, gaining control of the boat, and the basics of first aid.

Safety checks without the class will also be held that day at the Safe Harbor Deep River Marina from 9 am to 12 Noon.

Safety checks take 15 to 30 minutes and include a complete inspection of your vessel, valuable updated safety information, and a USCG Vessel Examination Decal to display.

Space is limited. For more information and to register for the checks and the class, please click here: Sign Up for Vessel Safety Check.
